I just wanted to say that Castle tonight was EPIC. It's like it's just there to please fans. Wait, shouldn't most show be like that? Well, in this situation, I mean Nathan Fillion fans, which the writers of this show please splendidly.

Also: I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT BSG. I'M LOOKING AT YOU, [info]hippiebohochick . Like, stuff is happening. And stuff. And you're really good at not revealing anything, while being just foreshadowing enough to keep me interested. Maybe that's why you're a writer.

I ordered We Katamari! So far, it makes me really happy. I forgot how much I love rolling a large sticky ball around.

I finished My So-Called Life. FINALLY. It's so wonderful. I really want to be Angela Chase for Halloween, but I don't know were to get Manic Panic hair dye. Hot Topic, maybe, but I don't want to force myself to go in there, what with all the paraphernalia related to... the-book-series-that-shall-not-be-named. Remember when Hot Topic was associated with The Nightmare Before Christmas and Invader Zim? Good times.

Oh, right, college. I like my class. I LOVE my roommates. Come to think of it, I haven't met a person I didn't like here, but I haven't met someone who seems like a potential best friend. Wait, am I in second grade? Friends are friends. Still, I guess I just need... a geeky friend. I suppose I still haven't sought out the board-game or anime clubs yet. We need a Sci-Fi club, is all I'm saying.

"...like tea!"
how does that make you feel
[info]sonorously
Hey! I'm in a dorm! In college! YEAH!

-Most of my stuff is moved in (minus posters and living room television).
- I have internet (obviously), and it's fine for web pages, but sucks SERIOUS PANDA BALLS on video. Oh, 'cept Hulu. Hulu's fine*. I guess I'll survive.
- Cell phone sucks here as well. Another reason to get an iPhone (apparently AT&T works fine here).
- I have free cable, though! Using that right now to watch the Jerry Orbach episode of Murder She Wrote.

All this leads me to the question: How was your first week at college?
I've just been getting over feeling homesick, but I still feel a bit introverted. I'm temped to just stay in my dorm. I know this will change once classes start, but I'm just curious about other people's experiences at the beginning of college. Any advice would definitely be welcome.

*I used Hulu to watch the new Castle episode. Man, I love that show.

mini updates: Hawaii, college, movies...

I haven't posted an entry in nine weeks. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME.

- I'm Hawaii right now! I'm in Maui for about a week. Anyway, today I went snorkeling, and I think I saw a Yellow Tang, aka Bubbles!

- I've watched the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica. I sort of fraking love it. A LOT. Also, Starbuck is awesome. PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ME.

- Why does it seem like Blockbuster carries mostly awful movies? I was looking for something that both my mother and I could enjoy, and I was surprised that they carry TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III. I ended up picking Last Chance Harvey and it was terribly lame. Not even Emma Thompson could save it.

- I really want to see District 9, In the Loop, and Ponyo. I think I also need to get back my Netflix so I can see all of Miyazaki's films.

- I'm leaving for college in a few weeks. Why Evergreen starts so late, I have no idea.

HAIR won a TONY! YAY! And I just saw it not too long ago! YAY! They totally deserved it. Dude, I told you how gay Burger and Claude were, right? Right!

I admit, I just heard news and didn't actually see all of the Tonys, but I need to because of NPH. Seriously.

I haven't posted in about 10 weeks according to my lj home page, and I decided that was too long.

UPDATE:

- I'm transferring to a four-year college in the fall! To a liberal arts college called Evergreen in Olympia, Washington! It's exciting! And a little scary! It's definitely probably sort of happening. By that I mean I'm going unless something catastrophic and unexpected happens.

- I finally saw Star Trek! I loved it! Well, at least I think so. It seemed to go by really fast. There were graphics and then eyebrows and then mini-skirts, and then an epic fan-fiction plot, and before I knew it, it was all over. It really deserves a second watch.

- I saw Hot Fuzz. Surprisingly, I really liked it! At first I was like, "eeehhhh...", but I trusted [info]hippiebohochick and was rewarded with the funny and the gay. Yeah. A lot of both of those.

- I saw ALL of Buffy (a while ago). ALL OF IT, DAMMIT! Overall: I loved it, except for seasons four and six being a little wonky. Especially season six with the wonkitude. Also, Buffy's trope list scares me and makes me happy at the same time.

- I went to New York for [info]hippiebohochick 's graduation. I also explored all New York City had to offer relating to vegan food, including an ENTIRELY VEGAN SODA & ICE CREAM SHOP. It was awesome. Plus, I think the California Academy of Sciences is better than the Natural History Museum. But how can you beat an IMAX 3D film about bugs narrated by Judi Dench?

- When I was in New York, I saw Hair. It was mind-blowingly amazing. Okay, maybe my mind wasn't really blown exactly, but it was still really epic. I seriously even shed a single tear of combined sadness and joy at the end. And the talent of the cast was pretty boundless. And I ship Burger/Claude SO HARD. So does the play, apparently. They were ALL OVER each other. Like, during a song that they weren't a part of, they just sort of laid on the floor and cuddled and held hands. Plus, all the other characters mention how Claude is in love with both Sheila and Burger. Burger also kept calling Claude "Claudia" for some reason. Probably a very gay reason. I love Hair so much.

- I've been watching Nostalgia Critic a lot lately. That Guy With the Glasses is awesome. Really, really awesome.

I'm going to end this really late post with a captionless cat. Because I can.

I decided to see what there is of the second season of The Big Bang Theory, and I'm kinda sorry that I said it was just "good". Because now I think it's pretty much great. Plus awesome. Lots and lots of PURE AWESOME. DUDE. Leonard's MOM. THAT WAS EPIC. Now I almost ship Howard and Raj. I LOVE IT.

EDIT: Holy shit. I just realized something. Howard/Raj TOTALLY = Taub/Kutner. YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO NOT SEE IT.

I also started watching How I Met Your Mother (two seasons so far), which I also love, but I think I love The Big Bang Theory more for two reasons off the top of my head.

1. HIMYM is fundamentally romance/relationships. TBBT is fundamentally about geekdom. I am a geek who is not currently in a relationship. Logic.

2. HIMYM uses the word "fat" to mean unattractive all the time. I get why Barney does it, because he's, well, Barney. But the rest of the characters do it, too. In contrast, on TBBT, Leonard dated a curvy girl and she was seen as attractive and awesome. No cheap jokes or sterotypes. I've almost never seen that happen before. I respect TBBT for that. Plus, even though TBBT makes fun of geeks, it still feels very by geeks for geeks, which I don't see a lot.

Er, not exactly why I felt compelled to compare the two. They're both on CBS?

Television overload.

I've been watching episodes of series one after another the past few days. So far, I've finished the first season of Merlin, and the first season of The Big Bang Theory (which I thought was cute, and although moments of it made me impossibly happy, overall I didn't think it was great, just good and sometimes squeal-worthy, but the opening theme is BnL and ftw). I still want to see the second season of The Big Bang Theory, but I think the last ep of the season comes out in March and I'm not willing to download each ep separately.

So: If you have a television series that has completed its first season, reccommend it. I guarantee almost instant gratification. I watched all of Merlin in what? Two or three days?

P.S. Oh, and I did finish Firefly and see the movie Serenity. And I'm becoming more critical of other shows because of it. Why aren't shows just alternately brilliantly funny or brilliantly touching all the time? Why does Dollhouse take itself so seriously? Firefly knew when to take itself seriously, and most importantly, when not to. (And no, I'm not going to judge a show entirely on its pilot. I'll wait at least a few episodes before deciding about Dollhouse.)

P.P.S. Fingers crossed for MORE WILSON SCREEN TIEM in tonight's House. At least this patient looks interesting.

I just started watching Merlin.

Every episode seems to go like this:

Something TERRIBLE or SUSPICIOUS HAPPENS.

Gaius: I don't know why I didn't see it before! This was caused by... wait for it... MAGIC.
Merlin: No!
Gaius: And... here's the crazy part. It can only be destroyed by-
Merlin: Bunnies? Lasers? Bunnies with lasers attached to them?
Gaius: M-A-G-I-C. But you shouldn't do it. It's too dangerous.
Merlin: Okay. I won't.
Gaius: But you have to. Or SOMEONE WILL DIE. Also, DON'T TELL UTHER.
Uther: LALALALA! I'M NOT LISTENING!
Merlin: If only my magic book came with a companion pronunciation guide. For those special, hard to pronounce spells. Because memorization is not AT ALL a problem.

MERLIN SAVES ARTHUR or ARTHUR SAVES MERLIN. Or BOTH. MULTIPLE TIMES.

ALSO: Arthur and Merlin need to have more awkward and gay conversations, or I'm going to start shipping Gaius/Librarian Man or maybe even Gaius/Uther. SRSLY. I'M WARNING YOU. GET ON WITH THE SLASH.

AND: NEVER EVER EVER TELL [info]pengiesama what happens at the beginning of "The Labyrinth of Gedref". EVAAAAARR. She will never forgive Arthur.

EDIT: Wait, I saw the rest of "The Labyrinth of Gedref"! There was slash and Arthur repented! Yay. Better.
EDIT AGAIN: Stop fucking with my html, lj! PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

PLUS: MAN, [info]hippiebohochick . I really wish you were here to point out all the "historical" innaccuracies. Because it would be full of win. And would also be educational.

So I was watching HGTV, and I saw a commercial for a French Castle show thingy. Called "Keys to the Castle" or something. And I SWEAR TO GOD that John Barrowman is the host, but they didn't even show his face! I could only tell from glimpses and his voice. MY GOD, ADVERTISERS. DON'T TELL ME YOU OVERLOOKED THE JOHN BARROWMAN FACTOR. Because if you said something like, "HEY. FRENCH CASTLE + JOHN BARROWMAN. YEAH, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT." I would watch that shit ALL THE DAMN TIME. YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO STOP ME. You'd be like, "Hey, wanna hang out and play video games?" and I'd be like, "NO WAY I HAVE TO RUN HOME TO WATCH JOHN BARROWMAN IN A FRENCH CASTLE SUNDAYS AT 8/7c." And I guess you'd be sad, but you'd get over it.

If you think I'm seeing things, I can prove its existance here.

Also. Me = VEGAN. I sort of just decided this yesterday, B♥U♥T♥, I've been wanting to for a while. It's going to be easier than one might think because since my mom is sort of vegan already, I have all the resources. I also have vegan blogs like this one (that I love) to look to. I also wanted to say so not to be preachy, but so I won't be as temped to go back in the future.

Hey, remember how I just finished Psychonauts several days ago? I started Final Fantasy XII shortly after that. And now I'm at Giruvegan. Giruvegan, guys. I'm feeling like that's really really far for just five days, plus fitting in watching an entire season of Lovejoy and a few discs of My So-Called Life. I'm also feeling like I have no life. This wasn't the only indication. I woke up at 4 today. 4 PM. And I thought to myself, "Hmm, I think I'll have breakfast." AT 4 PM.

At least I'm going home tomorrow, where I'll have things to do. Do you know how weird it'll be to have jetlag after flying from LAX to SFO?

Okay, a lot of stuff happened!

+ I beat Psychonauts! God. That sucked. Oh! Not the game altogether. It was the best game ever, but the Meat Circus killed me. And then, right before I dealt the last deathly flaming punch to the two-headed monster, THE GAME FROZE. I SHIT YOU NOT. I had to do the big top all over again! Although it was easier the second time through. And it certainly looked cool, but man. That platforming was a bitch. Better end note: BEST GAME EVER.

+ I beat Katamari Damacy! Well, not exactly with flying colors. I just barely beat it. See, when I first try to make a star, I fail. Then the second time, I totally kick ass. When I made the moon, I made the mark the first time. In the last minute. I'll probably try it again. But it was so much fun. I was like, "Dude, that thing I just picked up was HUUUGGEE! What could possibly be bigger than that?" and they were like, "Nobody expects the GIANT SQUID OF DEATH!" and then I picked it up. IT WAS EPIC.

+ I saw more episodes of Firefly. Wow. Before, I just liked it. Then I saw "Our Mrs. Reynolds", and it hit me. I LOVE THIS SHOW. No, I'm pretty sure I'm IN LOVE with this show. I get it now. It makes sense. :DDDD

+ Okay. Let me make my case before I tell you what I did. I really wanted to get the last disc of Firefly, but they didn't have it, and I wanted to get something, so I had to get... well... My So-Called Life. Just one disc! And the really sad part is... I kinda like it. Yes, it's extremely cheesey, and yes, I sort of like it. It's kinda cute and funny. And I like watching dated things. And I'm 15, and she's 15. So I feel like watching it. So sue me.

+ I saw Milk! So good, so fabluous. Just glorious. On a side note, MEN KISSING EACH OTHER YES. I know this movie had a message to send, and it did that beautifully, but OMG. That much main stream HOMOEROTIC GOODNESS and I just have to mention it.

video game UPDATE (sorry for the CAPSLOCK)

[info]sonorously
It's vacation, and I'm in LA. When my dad's off work, we see the Nutcracker, trim the tree, etc. but when he's not, I'm sorta left to my own devices. This means some serious DVD watching (rented Lovejoy, Ms. Marple, Frasier and MST3K) plus a lot of videogaming.

Escape From Monkey Island:

I love this game. Judging by its story, characters, and humor, I would call it the best game ever. It is endlessly clever and innovative and AWESOME. One catch. Its puzzles are on MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF CRACK. Example: The objective is to get into a bank, and you cannot use the front door. If you are ON CRACK, something possesses you to take a manhole (heh MANHOLE) cover, READ IT, apply the WRITTEN NAMES ON IT to a STORY THAT A PROSTHETICS MAKER TELLS YOU when you ask for FREE PROSTHETICS FOR YOUR FRIENDS in order to get PROSTHETIC SKIN. You use the PROSTHETIC SKIN on the MANHOLE to make a TRAMPOLINE that you JUMP ON to get inside the bank. This is not one of the complicated puzzles. What the FUCK? Okay, I'll admit, the logic there is pretty awesome. But either I missed one step and got stuck, was extremely thorough with all my items taking hours and hours, or I USED A WALKTHROUGH ALL THE TIME. Thankfully, I don't really have any qualms about using walkthroughs all the time, except that it occasionally makes me look stupid and a bit dishonest, but even when using a walkthough, this game is still really really fun. Then again, I just got to Monkey Kombat, which I've heard is awful or strangely likable, so we'll see.

Psychonauts:
Switching from Escape for a moment, this game is a nice change. Combat seems so fresh and new and FUN. I missed running around and jumping and bouncing and shooting things with mental lazers. I LOVE THE GAMEPLAY. I love the story. I love the characters. I love having psychic powers. I love Sasha/Milla, even though all that's really happened so far are the pictures in Milla's photo-brain-thingy. This game is quirky in the best possible way. PLUS A BIG, FRIED, SUPER-SIZE VALUE MEAL OF AWESOME.

Note to self: Buy hot chocolate powder and assorted pre-packaged baked goods kits. And maybe find a jazzy chirstmas online radio station. And a candle that smells like cinnamon. I'm not quite feeling Christmasy enough yet, and it's the day before Christmas eve!

new games + finals next week = GUILT

Instead of wanting a game console (or trying to decide which one), I just said screw it. And bought games. Five, in fact. All for PS2. Bye, Christmas money!

+ Katamari Damacy (Just started this one. Genius. I so get that xkcd comic now. ROYAL RAINBOW!)
+ Escape From Monkey Island (I wish I could play older installments, but I don't have a PC. Can someone fill me in a little? Only just began playing it, and it's so fabulous, but I know I'm missing vast amounts of story that would make this game more enjoyable.)
+ Psychonauts
+ Lego Indiana Jones
+ Final Fantasy XII (Because I don't own it. And may want to play it multiple times. This is also the one that hasn't been delivered yet.)

Finals? What finals? I know not of these finals of which you all speak. Oh! You mean those massive tests I really should be studying for over the weekend? I'M BLINDED WITH THOUGHTS OF THE GREAT CHRISTMAS DICKENS FAIR. And possibly seeing Milk or Frost/Nixon. Okay, I must admit: I totally thought "Frost/Nixon" meant exactly what you think I thought it meant at first look.

I'm having a bit of a gaming dilemma. For Christmas, I was going to get together Christmas money with some of my own and get a Wii (plus a Wii Fit). I've endlessly heard of its awesomeness, so I was convinced that was what I wanted for single, large present. Suddenly I was thinking about what I was going to do when Final Fantasy XIII came out. I knew I wasn't going to get a PS3. $400? No way. I went to Amazon, and discovered that all new games from Square Enix will also be on the Xbox 360.

My real questions: Is the Xbox 360 worth it? Just how awesome is the Wii in comparison? Are Squeenix games like Infinite Undiscovery or The Last Remnant worth it? I know the Xbox 360 is cheaper and has more games, but I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, so I thought the Wii might be more suited to me. Plus, I really dislike Microsoft. WHICH ONE?

Finally signed up for next semester's classes. It's an awesomely easy assortment of three regular classes along with yoga and a beginning dance class. Well, since I have financial aid, if I take just enough to be full time, I get more extra money! I'm pretty fond of more money and less classes.

Monday: NOTHING.

Tuesday: PEG 104, Yoga. 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Tuesday and Thursday:
SPE 210, Interpersonal Communications. 11:00am - 12:30pm.
POL 200, American Government and Politics. 2:00pm - 3:30pm.

Wednesday: THE 247, Social Dance Forms: Beginning. 6:30pm - 9:30pm.

Friday: NOTHING.

Online: MTH 56, Intermediate Algebra. Whenever the hell I want.

...but I still have this semester to worry about. Two term projects I still haven't started. Plus an essay due the day after tomorrow. In addition to the obvious exams, finals, etc. Just three more weeks, Sonora. Then you can enjoy a college length winter break!

I saw Twilight. I know, right? Whatever, I'm sure you've already heard about the god awful-ness, so I won't expand on that. I saw it with my friend Talya that I'm visiting here in LA, and afterwards we talked:

Me: Tell you the truth, that fight scene between Edward and James was SO MUCH hotter than that kiss between Bella and Edward.

Tayla: Yeah, I totally thought Edward and James were going to kiss.

Without me suggesting such a thing first (although I was totally thinking it)! And I'm the slash girl here. Talya. Bless her heart.

Oh yeah, I bought four pairs of tennis shoes. First, I'm probably not going to be daughter of the year because I used my father to get shoes, and second, am I turning into Gregory House?
